Here are some of Ray's own comments about how he got started in the music business. I remember the first Southern Gospel music I ever heard, like Martha Carson singing "Satisfied," the Statesmen, the Blackwood Brothers Quartet, and the LeFevres. We lived only about twenty minutes from The Lewis Family. That is where my desire to learn to play the piano began. I still remember, Polly, Miggie, Janice and Little Roy singing "I Know My Lord Will Lead Me Home," as Polly played the piano. I decided then that I wanted to learn to play the piano like Polly.
